The holiday is designed for players of Duplicate Bridge at club level, catering for a wide range of ability. You don’t need to book with a partner, everyone is welcome and your hosts will sort out partnerships. You can also bring a friend who does not share your interest in Bridge, as there are many alternatives available to them. Please contact us for prices for non bridge players.
Your own transport is a necessity, however on occasions if this is not convenient please contact us and we will, if possible, provide transport for you at a surcharge.
During your holiday there will be Duplicate Bridge each weekday afternoon.
It is the 'norm' in France for club bridge to be played between 2.00p.m until 6.00p.m with the results being published soon after the finish of play.
French hospitality is second to none especially at our local Bridge Clubs, so why not combine a serious interest in Bridge with the experience of another culture and environment?
We have selected 5 different Bridge Clubs affiliated to the French Bridge Federation in the Anjou region, all within 50 minutes travelling distance of la Roulais.
On each morning, before playing bridge at 2.00pm, you have the opportunity if you wish, to visit the area close to the chosen Bridge Club for that afternoon and to have lunch.
In the evening, after dinner, a game of bridge is available for those who are extra keen and not too fatigued after playing all afternoon!
I (your host Nick Mumby) have been playing duplicate bridge for over forty years. Before moving to France twelve years ago, I was an active member of York Bridge Club playing at County level. Now living in France, I play at a variety of clubs in the region which I have included in our itinerary. At the beginning of your stay I will explain “all things French” regarding bridge - which is not greatly different from playing in the UK, bidding boxes are standard. The French are very welcoming at their clubs and you are guaranteed a good game of bridge, played in a relaxed and friendly environment and a knowledge of spoken French is not necessary. I will accompany you to each club (giving me the excuse to play bridge more often than I am currently allowed !)
